MARe Talks x MATCA: Contemporary Art Conversations for Now

Ioana Iuna Șerban, curator MARe

Guided tour led by Iuna Șerban, MARe curator, who assisted curator Bernard Blistène, Honorary Director of the Centre Pompidou – National Museum of Modern Art, in preparing the Ștefan Bertalan retrospective for the Bucharest public. A tour that puts the pieces together: how the journey was designed, why certain works are grouped together, and how to read Ștefan Bertalan's preoccupations with humanity, nature, and technology within the context of the exhibition. Relaxed, clear, and to the point, for those who want to understand more than meets the eye. Event duration: 18:30 - 19:30

Mimi Pleșoianu, visual artist

How does a visual artist perceive this exhibition? We invite you to a special guided tour of the retrospective "Ștefan Bertalan: In the Rhythm of the World," led this time by visual artist Mimi Pleșoianu. Mimi will offer an in-depth, personal reading of the exhibited works, providing visitors with the necessary context to understand Bertalan’s complex artistic journey from a practical perspective. This is a unique opportunity to discover the exhibition—curated by Bernard Blistène—through the lens of an artist who deciphers forms, textures, and the creative process beyond mere theory. If you want to understand how "in tune with the world" translates into technique and emotion, join us for this visual dialogue at the museum. Duration: 18:30–19:30.

Image vs. Text: The dynamics of contemporary art and literature.

Guests Simona Popescu (writer) and Laura Mesina (art critic and researcher), alongside moderator Cristina Bălașa (editor at MATCA), will explore the mutual influence between narrative and the visual—from poetry that is "seen" to art that is "read." They will discuss how language shapes our perception of images and how contemporary artists navigate these two worlds to generate new meanings. In an increasingly dense visual culture, the relationship between the word and visual representation remains a territory of constant exploration, where the two mediums mirror, contradict, or merge. This edition of MARe Talks, organized in partnership with MATCA, offers an in-depth look at this interdisciplinary dialogue. Admission: 60 RON (Includes museum entry and access to current exhibitions)
