Martha Rosler. The Talking Eye.
MARTHA ROSLER is part of the generation of radical American artists who expanded the scope of critical art from a specific focus (such as feminism, represented in the MARe exhibition with her most famous series of photomontages, Body Beautiful, c. 1966–1972) to the most diverse tensions, flaws, and sore points of society.
”Martha Rosler. The Talking Eye Martha Rosler’s sharp eye tears apart glossy magazines and TV commercials on behalf of others. Thus arise photomontages, photographs, and videos that expose the error within prosperity, the agony within beauty, the war within comfort. A pioneer of American agitprop, Martha Rosler embodied radical activist art as early as the 1970s, when it was neither fashion nor profession, but simply idealism. And her eyes continue to cut, continue to speak, keeping alive the ideal of engaged art.” ERWIN KESSLER
