INWARDS/OUTWARDS
A triple premiere at MARe: the first solo show by a Romanian artist, new works, and the first exhibition to encompass both the interior and exterior of the museum.
The exhibition “INWARDS/OUTWARDS” brings together a significant number of new works in the most diverse media (painting, sculpture, bas-reliefs, installations, and a large mural on the façade of MARe). Gorzo’s works can be discovered both inside and outside the museum, as the public is invited to connect directly with art through a large-scale mural created by the artist on the museum’s surface. This event marks a landmark moment for the Romanian art scene, redefining the relationship between artist, work, and public within a museum context.
Between September 18 and October 3, visitors to the museum are invited to take part in a LIVE STUDIO, with the presence of the artist, who will transform the museum space into a place of creation. Visitors will have the rare opportunity to see Dumitru Gorzo in the midst of the artistic process and to interact directly with him.
GORZO is one of the most important contemporary Romanian artists, recognized both nationally and internationally. Born in 1975 in Ieud, Romania, Dumitru Gorzo transcends strict categorizations through his work, navigating various genres, platforms, and media. A founding member of the artistic movement “Rostopasca,” Gorzo maintains a satirical attitude towards societal issues, visible in his work, which is characterized by the versatility of his mediums—ranging from hand-carved wooden reliefs with a raw presence, sometimes referencing Romanian folklore, to bold paintings with a neo-pop conceptual sensitivity, as well as sculpture and street pranks. Currently, Gorzo divides his time between Romania and the USA.
