Ask a question

What are the museum's opening hours?

MARe is open every day from 11:00 to 19:00, except on Tuesdays when it is closed.

Can I bring a backpack?

Yes, we have lockers in the basement.

Can I bring my pet into the museum?

Unfortunately, no. But you can enjoy a coffee at Beans & Dots in the museum garden, accompanied by your furry friends. 🙂

What does MARe mean?

MARe (/ˈma.re/, with the stress on the first syllable, “MA-re”) is the short name we use when referring to the Museum of Recent Art. We simply say “mare”—as in the Romanian wish “Să crești mare!” (“May you grow big”). A wish we gladly make for ourselves, especially since October 2025 marked seven years since MARe opened its doors.

If I have a ticket, can I meet the artist?

It’s not impossible.
Artists sometimes come to the opening, and other times as simple visitors, incognito.

Picasso exhibition is still in the museum?

The exhibition “The Picasso Effect” was presented at MARe/Museum of Recent Art from September 27, 2023, to January 22, 2024. For enthusiasts, the MARe shop still offers Picasso posters, catalogs, and tote bags. The exhibition was organized in partnership with Musée National Picasso-Paris and marked 50 years since the passing of Pablo Picasso. It featured 46 works by Picasso alongside 50 works by Romanian artists inspired by his legacy.
